Children's Show - Native story telling

This year the subject of the Children's show is Native American Indians. As a group we brainstormed the ideas to put towards children's theatre, effects, lighting, style etc.But in order to devise a piece we had to read stories, poems, songs, myths etc. Some of the stories contributed towards the brainstorming of the Native American storyline.

I have been looking at the stories two in particular "Arrow Boy" and "The Creation of the First Man and the First Woman". Both do give this magical impression of gods and spirts however after reading both it does seem that elements maybe too strong for a childrens show.
I have been looking at the stories two in particular "Arrow Boy" and "The Creation of the First Man and the First Woman". Both do give this magical impression of gods and spirts however after reading both it does seem that elements maybe too strong for a childrens show. Although in the creation story there is a lovely mention how the coyote was getting impatient so shook the blanket which caused the stars to fly up in the air and land way they may in the sky. I thought that would work lovely for the show especially with the right lighting.
I did tell the stories to the group but it was agreed a bit to drawn out and inappropriate for children.
the final stories had been whittled down to Heron and the Hummingbird, Coyote and the Snake, Rainbow Crow, Pigian Warrior, Women in the Sky, Buffalo Story. however we needed a link between each story and to begin the journey. This intended overlooking story research of which turned about the story teller story, this setted up the journey however was not discovered til later on.
